Nowadays, video calling is a skill that everyone must have. However, many users still don’t know the specific steps on how to open that convenient and safe exclusive channel in Apple’s ecological environment.
Preparation and prerequisites
In advance, you must prepare a newer Apple device, such as an iPhone from 2018 onwards, or an iPad that supports the latest system. It is a basic requirement that the device can power on and operate normally. At the same time, please ensure that the device can access the Internet. Whether it is your home Wi-Fi network or mobile cellular data, a stable network connection is the foundation for activation and subsequent use, otherwise the entire process will not proceed.

Another important prerequisite is that you must have a valid Apple ID account. This account is equivalent to your identity certificate in Apple's service system. If you do not have such an account yet, you must register one for free on Apple's official website or in the device settings. Remember your account number and password in advance, because the system will definitely ask you to log in during the activation process.
Enter system settings
Please look for the gray gear-shaped "Settings" application icon on the home screen of your device, and then click to enter. The Settings app is the central entry point for adjusting all device functionality. After entering, you will see a detailed menu list, which covers wireless LAN, Bluetooth, notifications and many other options.
Find your target in this list and you'll have it. Slide your finger up on the screen to scroll down the menu. Because the location varies slightly according to different system versions, the option with the word "FaceTime" needs to be carefully searched. Once found, click on it directly to enter the function management interface.
Turn on function switch
After entering the FaceTime settings page, you will see a switch button that is most easily noticed. If the current switch is white or gray and the display is off, you only need to lightly touch the switch with your finger. After clicking, the switch will slide to the other side and turn green, which means that the FaceTime function has been successfully activated.

This switch is the main control function. When it is in the green on state, your device has the ability to make and receive FaceTime calls. If you later want to temporarily turn off this function, just click the switch again to switch it back to the gray state.
Handle login and authentication
When you turn on the switch for the first time, if the device detects that you are not logged in, a login dialog box will automatically pop up in the center of the screen. The dialog box will clearly prompt you to enter your Apple ID and password for FaceTime. Please fill in your prepared account information here accurately.
After completing the input, click the Confirm button. The system will then send your information to Apple servers for verification. This process usually only takes a few seconds. When the verification is passed, the page will be refreshed, and you may see the mobile phone number and email address associated with your Apple ID appearing on the interface, which have become identifiers that allow you to be called.
Add contact and calling methods
After successful activation, you can start a call, open the "Contacts" application in the device with the relevant software, and select a friend who also uses an Apple device. On the contact details page of this person, you will see a "Video" or "FaceTime" button. Press this button to initiate a video call invitation.
You can also associate more email addresses for this feature. Go to the FaceTime settings page and find the option "Add Email…". After clicking, enter other email addresses that you usually use. The system will send a verification email to this email address. Follow the instructions in the email to complete the verification. This is the email address that can be used to make and receive calls.

Troubleshooting and Safety Instructions
If activation fails, first try to shut down the device completely and then restart it. This operation can clear the temporary fault. Secondly, go to "Settings" > "General" > "Software Update" to check for system updates. Make sure your iOS or iPadOS system is the latest version. Aging systems may not be able to support services.
Regarding security, every content of your FaceTime calls is protected by end-to-end encryption technology, which means that only the devices on both sides of the call can decrypt the content, and even Apple itself has no way to eavesdrop. This gives your private conversations bank-level security, and you can use it with peace of mind.
Which platform do you use most frequently to make video calls? Is it FaceTime or other third-party applications? What factors led you to make this choice? We sincerely welcome you to share your practical experiences and opinions in the comment area.
