The recent updates of the Firefox browser have brought more practical data security and stability guarantees to users under different systems.
Automatic backup tool online
In this update, Windows 10 users get a practical data backup tool that can run by itself in the background every day, encrypt key browsing data such as passwords and bookmarks, and save it on the local device. Users can set a separate password for the backup file, which increases the security during data migration or system reinstallation.
There is such a function, the operation entrance is in the settings menu, and no manual intervention is required after it is turned on. If the user changes to a new computer or reinstalls the system on the current device, all browsing data can be restored directly from this encrypted backup, thus eliminating the trouble of manual export! Currently this function only supports Windows platform.
GPU process improves stability
For macOS users, the new version of Firefox introduces a separate GPU process, which is dedicated to processing core tasks related to graphics rendering, such as WebGL and some own graphics technologies, which indicates that graphics processing tasks are isolated in a separate environment.
If complex graphics, animations, or games crash on a web page, the problem will be limited to the scope of this GPU process. The system will automatically restart this process, and the browser's main interface and other tabs can continue to run. This prevents the entire browser from completely freezing or closing due to graphics errors.
New features open to all users
Those experimental features that were originally in Firefox Labs have now removed the experience threshold. In the past, if users wanted to use them, they might have to agree to participate in data research or turn on telemetry; starting from version 146.0, users can directly try these cutting-edge features in the settings, regardless of whether they choose to share their data or not.
This reduces the conditions for users to experience new browser features, allowing more people to have early access to tools or interface improvements that may be officially launched in future versions. This also encourages the development team to collect more extensive early use feedback, although this is no longer a hard requirement.
Search and interface efficiency optimization
When users enter search keywords in the address bar, they may see an option like "Go directly to results." Selecting this option will jump directly to the most relevant website, just like entering the name of a movie will directly enter the homepage of the movie, eliminating the need for the intermediate step of visiting the search engine results page first.
For users in the EU and certain other regions, the New Tab weather widget has a clearer permissions process. When users use it for the first time, they will be explicitly asked whether to allow the use of device positioning, and they can also add weather information directly by manually entering the city name, giving more control.
System compatibility and display improvements
This update officially removes support for the old TLS 1.0 and 1.1 encryption protocols. If some enterprises or special websites still need to rely on these outdated security protocols to access, then users will have to switch to Firefox's 140.0 ESR (Extended Support Release) or higher, which allows all parties to upgrade to the more secure TLS 1.2 or 1.3 protocols.
On the Linux system, the new version natively supports the fractional scaling of the Wayland display server. This shows that when using scaling ratios that are not integer times, such as 125% and 150%, the rendering of the browser interface will become clearer and more efficient, reducing screen blur and improving the display effect on high-resolution screens.
Localization and detail adjustments
For those using the English version of Firefox in France, Germany or Italy, the address bar now recognizes local important dates such as public holidays. Once the user enters a relevant search, local holiday information described in English will be displayed first, making it easier for foreign users or English speakers to understand local arrangements.
The color selection dialog box in the browser settings has been improved. The new controls allow users to select theme colors more intuitively and accurately, or adjust the color mode of page rendering. These seemingly small interface optimizations can accumulate to make daily browsing and custom settings experience smoother.
