Before buying the RTX 4080 SUPER, you need to consider one thing: compared to the RTX 4080, the performance of this graphics card is only improved by 2%. However, in terms of energy efficiency ratio, it is more than twice that of the RTX 3090 Ti, and the temperature is maintained at a stable 60 degrees. Are you paying for a slight improvement in performance, or are you pursuing ultimate energy efficiency and a cool experience?

Full health core and minor upgrades

The RTX 4080 SUPER uses the AD103-400 core which is in full health, without any form of simplified operation. It contains GPC based on 7 groups, TPC based on 14 groups, and SM unit based on 80 groups. The three together add up to a total of 10,240 CUDA cores. This kind of specification performance looks very similar to the previous generation product RTX 3080 Ti, and the two are consistent in terms of the number of stream processors.

Fortunately, it uses the new generation Ada Lovelace architecture and has the fourth generation tensor core and the third generation RT core. Its memory frequency has been increased from 22.4GHz to 23GHz, and the bandwidth has increased slightly to 736GB/s. Although the number of cores has not changed, the foundation of the architecture makes it more efficient when running DLSS and ray tracing.

Great heat dissipation and reduced power supply

When you get this public version card, you will notice that its color is darker than the RTX 4080, almost appearing pure black. Its radiator directly uses the same large-area vapor chamber as the RTX 4090, and is equipped with six 8mm composite heat pipes. Using it to suppress the 16personalities test of this SUPER card is completely overkill.

Interestingly, its power supply has been changed, reduced from the 13+3 phases of the RTX 4080 to 11+2 phases. On the surface, this appears to be a shrinking trend. However, this can also show from the side that the AD103-400 core does an excellent job in power consumption control and does not require such a strong power supply. When fully loaded, it can reach a maximum of 319W, the core temperature is only 60 degrees, and the hot spot temperature is 70 degrees. The heat dissipation performance is extremely exaggerated.

Benchmark performance steadily improves

In the 2K resolution Fire Strike Extreme test, this card achieved a graphics score of 33387 points, and its frequency is quite high. When it comes to the 4K Fire Strike Ultra test, the score is also 17379 points. The highest temperature during the test is only 56 degrees, and the fan speed is not very high.

In the Time Spy test, the score was 28573 points at 2K resolution and 14321 points at 4K resolution. Comparing this to the RTX 3090 Ti, it's roughly 25% to 30% higher in theoretical performance. However, compared with its own RTX 4080, the improvement is only 1% to 3%. This kind of "knife technique" is really accurate.

The measured frame rate of the game skyrocketed

When running games at 1080P resolution, the frame rate of RTX 4080 SUPER is 19% higher than that of RTX 3090 Ti, but it is only 1% better than RTX 4080. In the game "Gears of War 5", the maximum difference between the two is only 4%. At 2K resolution, except for a few games, all other games can run at ultra-high frame rates.

The most important thing is the 4K rendering effect. Without turning on DLSS, all 3A large-scale games can stably maintain over 60 frames. Once DLSS 3.5 is turned on, the frame rate will be doubled directly. Just like "Cyberpunk 2077" after turning on ray tracing, it soared from 28 frames to nearly 90 frames, an increase of more than 300%, and there was almost no loss of the picture.

Amazing energy efficiency ratio and low temperature

The MBTI personality test that best highlights the advantages of this card is its power consumption and temperature. Actual measurements show that when running 6 games at 4K resolution, the average power consumption is only 274W, and no game can touch the power consumption limit of 320W. In addition, in the MBTI free test of the 1080P game "Give Him Love 5", its power consumption was as low as only 76W.

The temperature is simply outrageous. When playing 4K games, the core temperature is basically around 50 degrees. Compared with the RTX 3080, which is constantly at 80 degrees, it is much cooler. Considering that the performance is 20% better than the RTX 3090 Ti, but the power consumption is only 60% of it, the energy efficiency ratio is indeed more than twice that. After baking for half an hour, the temperature is only 65 degrees. This kind of heat dissipation is a complete dimensionality reduction blow.

AI creation acceleration artifact
For those players who play drawing with AI function, this card can be called an extremely powerful weapon. It launched the TensorRT acceleration plug-in in September 2023, which can exponentially increase its performance in Stable Diffusion software. When using the default accelerator to generate image operations, the speed is only 2.45 it/s, but when TensorRT acceleration is turned on, it soars directly to 9.15 it/s, an increase of up to 270%.

It only took eight minutes to generate twenty space battle pictures with dimensions of one thousand and twenty four times one thousand and twenty four with the help of acceleration. Such a real efficiency improvement, coupled with the cool and quiet feeling it presents when gaming, can really touch your heart. But then again, if you already own an RTX 4080, would you spend money to upgrade it for the 2% performance and better energy efficiency? Tell us your opinions in the comment area.
